Sebeiba: A pure cultural festival!

     The Sebeiba Festival is a major ancestral Touareg celebration, listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014 by the UNESCO, and held annually on Ashura (the 10th day of the lunar calendar) in Djanet. For this year (2026), it will take place as of June 25th.

     Sebeiba celebrates Moses’ victory over Pharaoh, and it is a festival of reconciliation, blending dances, songs, and traditional costumes, where local communities of the Tassili n’Ajjer symbolically compete to celebrate peace and social cohesion.

     During this event, men performers dance (dressed in warrior attire with swords), while women sing to the rhythm of “Ganga” drums. And each group represents its community.
